After having an eye-opening experience while watching "How I Met Your Mother" {detailed here}, I jumped in to this photography business that I've been so afraid of.
It's been quite the adventure so far and I've just started!
I researched, read, and took tons of notes. First, I used {this} resource to help with pricing things out. That took me a long time to sort out, but it would have been absolutely hectic without the worksheets. There are things on there that I wouldn't have even thought of.
After doing the math to discover what my prices should be, I moved on to figure out what exactly that price should include, among the thousands of other things I needed to do to get my business up and running. Many other resources were helpful here {1, 2, 3}.

Following all that research, I set out for my business license. I already had my assumed business name registered near the end of last year, so there's one part of it done. Then I filled out the application and took my purpose-filled self down to the city hall. This only lead me back and forth and even home again before I was able to turn in my application with the fee and receive my business license. WOOHOO! Licensed to shoot and kill! Just kidding, about the killing part ;)
Following all that, I stepped into the nearest library to pick up several books to further assist me in this business and legal crap. Then the next two nights I worked on detailing my model releases, portrait agreement contracts, print releases, client prep sheets, senior brainstorm sheets, and so on. All while trying to create my print packages.
If it sounds exhausting then I'm telling the story right. That's about where I'm at now. I have lots more on my photography business to-do list, but that isn't going to stop me from shooting! Right now I'm searching for volunteers to be my models, so I can get out there and gain some more experience to be as prepared as possible for when the "doors" are open for business.
